How to Get a Permanent Resident Travel Document?

To get this document, a permanent resident travel document application form has to be filled out. Along with supporting documents and application fees which all have to be submitted to VAC.

Here are the steps to follow –

1. Gather the required documents: This includes proof of your permanent resident status in Canada, such as a Permanent Resident Card (PRC), as well as a valid passport or travel document from your country of citizenship.
2. Fill out the application form: You can find the application form for a PRTD on the Government of Canada website. Make sure to fill out the form completely and accurately.
3. Pay the fee: There is a fee for applying for a PRTD, which you can pay online or by mail.
4. Submit your completed application form, required documents, and fee to the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) office nearest to you.
5. Wait for processing: Your application will be processed by the IRCC, and you will be notified of the decision. It can take several months for the processing of your application.
6. Receive and use your PRTD: If your application is approved, you will receive your PRTD in the mail. You can use this document to travel outside of Canada and return as a permanent resident.
   
   

It’s important to note that if your PRC has expired, you must renew it before you can apply for a PRTD. Also, if your PRC is lost, stolen or damaged, you must apply for a replacement before you can apply for a PRTD.
